Technical Reviews
For the last week or so, I’ve been working on incorporating the technical reviews of my digital identity book into the draft. I’m also trying to finalize it for O’Reilly. I found the best way to catch small typos (and I make a lot) is to read the draft out loud to myself. That’s really time consuming. In the old days, before spell checkers, I used to read things backwards to force myself to look at each word for spelling.

You can also use your Macintoshes speach feature to read to you.

I use an inexpensive piece of software on my Mac called AudioBookMaker. ($2.50 - no that isn't a typo) that's available from MacUpdate

I copy the text I need to read, paste it into my version of AudioBookMaker (1,5,1) select Victoria - or another voice - and convert it to an AIFF file. Then I drop it into iTunes and sync it to my iPod. Then I "read" the stuff as I travel. I keep short notes to remind me which parts I need to go back and look at it.
You can do the same thing using Applescript.
