Adobe Open-sources Flex
I’m not sure what the excitement is all about.

Phil -- are you not sure about the excitement about Flex per se? Or the open sourcing of it? Or both?

Yeah, important distinction. I guess I've never been very excited about Flex, so it's hard to get worked up about it getting open sourced.

Agreed - an avid AJAX fan I don't get Flex. While it may be open source now, it doesn't promote the open nature of open source enough for me like AJAX does.

I am an ajax fan, but I do understand the interest around richer web delivered clients (eg WPF/Silverlight, Flash/Apollo).
Given that, it is a step in an interesting direction to establish a free and open rich client platform. But its all moot without flash being open sourced.
