Ubuntu: A New Linux Ditro

I wrote about Unbuntu a new Linux distro from Mark Shutleworth over at Between the Lines a few days ago and pointed to some things Doc Searls is saying about it. This morning, Sam Ruby posted about getting Ubuntu booting on his T-40 laptop. I haven’t tried it yet, but the reports are that it’s very easy to get running. Ubuntu isn’t aimed at the enterprise space, but rather the home and hobbyist market.

I just installed Ubuntu on my Mother-in-law's computer, since all she ever does is access the web and use email. Unfortunately, she only has dial-up internet access and I haven't been able to get the PCI WinModem she has installed to work with it. Other than that, it was a very simple install.

I'm running Ubuntu on Inspiron 8200. Installation wasn't seamless, but everything seems to work now. You can see my log here: http://ubuntu-inspiron.blogspot.com/
